The Sooke River Road Hideaway is located in Sooke, British Columbia. Sooke is located on the south-western tip of Vancouver Island, off the west coast of British Columbia. Although only 20 miles from the provincial capital of Victoria, which is a bustling tourist town, Sooke has remained relatively quiet.
Situated close to access to the regional Galloping Goose trail, the Hideaway is ideal for those wishing to walk or cycle the area. Smaller trails branch off the Galloping Goose, and will lead you to waterfalls, swim-holes, fishing spots, or to the top of assorted size hills that offer panoramic views of the southern island and the mountains of Washington State and mainland BC.
A few miles further west from Sooke, and you are into the longest stretch of temperate rainforest in the world. The coast is mainly rugged cliffs and driftwood strewn rocky beaches, but long sandy bays are plenty, and well worth the effort needed to reach them. Trail difficulty ranges from flat and paved, to long, steep and rugged. For the real adventurous, climbing gear and strong nerves will let you access a beach all to yourself, or maybe just you and the seals, otters, whales and eagles!

The climate on southern Vancouver Island is unlike much of the rest of Canada. Winters are comparatively mild, which means that outdoor activities can be pursued year-round. The rainy season, usually November to March, can be very wet, but mild, and is a good time to see the rivers and waterfalls in their prime. White water rafting or kayaking is not for the faint-of-heart at this time.
