Spiritual Places.

The Healing Experience of Spiritual Eco-Tourism  An introduction.

Local History

The local First Peoples of the Pacific Northwest had a relatively comfortable lifestyle. Living in the rainforest through a damp cool winter, huddled in smoke filled earthen shelters might not be our idea of luxury, but the spring, summer and fall all bring out the bounties of nature, and the living would have been fairly easy.

As the life was migratory, buildings were temporary, and not many old signs of inhabitance remain to discover. Old middens or dumps by a river bank, beach or bay are occasionally found, and contain the everyday artifacts of the time. Some places however, seem to have a 'feel' to them, suggesting a special place has been found. Some of these places are conducive to meditation, or quiet reflection, or artistic pursuits such as writing, painting or carving.

The West Coast, over the last 25 years or so, has also attracted a certain type of settler, those perhaps looking to get away from the mainstream, looking for a lifestyle more in keeping with the unspoiled, rugged and even humbling surroundings. Gentle, tranquil beauty lives alongside raging, pounding forces that make us seem fragile at best. Many people, from many parts of the world, have been drawn here it seems by a common underlying magnet, something saying that this is where to settle. And sure enough, this common thread is being drawn together, adding its weight to the existing fabric of the ones who have come this way before. The whole is becoming more than the sum of its' components.

Some people might say that is because the locals smoke too much BC Bud. Possible. Anyway, for those so inclined, here are some links to places that may be of interest:

Krishnamurti Society-a beautiful, peaceful lodge located by the sea in Metchosin. Accommodation available.

High Places-always a good feel after the hike.

Waterfalls, rivers, canyons.

Beaches, caves, bluffs.

Forests, Groves and Trees

Creatures- Raven, eagle, wolf, bear, cougar.
